Sigrow at Expo Puutarha 2026: Greenhouse Visits and Plant Empowerment in Finland

Finns are masters of climate control. You only need to look at one of their most successful international exports to see it: the sauna — a pocket of extreme heat inside a landscape of extreme cold. Greenhouse horticulture is, of course, another form of climate control. Last week, Mihnea Paraschiv from Sigrow visited Finland together with local partner Schetelig Oy for greenhouse visits, the Expo Puutarha 2026 trade show, and a Plant Empowerment training session in Närpes.

Expo Puutarha 2026

The trip started at Expo Puutarha 2026, where Sigrow was present at the Schetelig Oy booth. It was a great opportunity to discuss Sigrow’s technology with Finnish and Swedish growers, partners, and consultants — people who produce in some of the most demanding light conditions in Europe. The conversations were sharp and grounded in practice: how to manage low-light winters, how to steer crops efficiently with available energy, and how sensor-driven data fits into their daily workflow.

Plant Empowerment Training in Närpes

In Närpes — one of the most important greenhouse horticulture regions in the Nordics — the team attended the Plant Empowerment training organised by the Plant Empowerment Academy. Among the speakers were Ton Habraken from Svensson Climate Screens and Stiina Kotiranta from Signify, who presented on climate control grounded in Plant Empowerment principles, with a strong focus on climate uniformity and leaf temperature monitoring. A very insightful session that reinforced the value of measuring what the plant actually experiences — not just the air around it.

Impressions from the Field

Beyond the events, the greenhouse visits themselves were a highlight. Finnish growers operate in a climate that demands precision: short days in winter, long days in summer, and a very short outdoor growing season. The discipline and data-driven approach on display was impressive, and the conversations confirmed that growers here are actively looking for tools that help them act on the data they already collect.

On a personal note — it was a first visit to Finland. The nature is striking: so much forest, so many lakes, and in mid-April still daylight until 10–11 PM. A trip worth every moment.

Thanks to Tony Joas, Kevin Lundenius, and Sara Viklund-Granfors from Schetelig Oy for the warm welcome. Looking forward to more projects in Finland.
