Plant Empowerment

Sense. Discover. Improve.

PLANT EMPOWERMENT
Plant empowerment is a greenhouse cultivation approach that focuses on optimizing plant growth by balancing light, CO₂, water, and nutrients through data-driven decisions and environmental control. It emphasizes plant resilience and self-regulation rather than conventional climate control methods, aiming for sustainable and efficient production.

A 5-STEP Approach
1 Ensure climate uniformity

Benefits:
- Detect and avoid cold spots that cause condensation and fungal disease
- Ensure more uniform production
Goal:
Maintain air temperature difference < 2ºC

Reduce climate variation
Spot hot and cold zones quickly, keep conditions uniform, and boost plant performance with precise, data-driven adjustments.
Example actions:
Fully closed screens

Lee-side & wind side ventilation

Vertical fans

Growers use these products daily to achieve this step:

2 Avoid radiation towards the sky at night

Benefits:
- Avoid heat loss and condensation
- Save on energy costs
Goal:
Net radiation never lower than -15 W/m2

Optimize radiation for healthier growth
Track radiation, identify periods of high heat, ensuring plants remain within the optimal range for healthy growth.
Stay on top of your climate control to enhance plant performance and prevent stress caused by extreme radiation levels.
Example actions:
Close screen before incoming radiation becomes 0

Use 2 - 3 screens

No screen gaps

Growers use these products daily to achieve this step:
Net Radiometer
Air+

3 Balance Greenhouse Moisture

Benefits:
- Decrease energy cost
- Optimize transpiration
Goal:
Keep your plant organ temperature above the dew point temperature

Better understand crop microclimate
Keep your fruit, flower, leaf head temperature above the dew point to avoid condensation to
ensure better crop quality.
In-between-crops relative humidity and temperature can differ drastically from the air humidity and
temperature. That is why it is important to keep track of plant microclimate.
Example actions:
Fully closed screens

Lee-side & wind side ventilation

Increase below-screen temperature

Growers use these products daily to achieve this step:

4 Balance Assimilation

Benefits:
- Avoid out of balance growth
- Achieve higher yield
Goal:
Balance day light integral and average plant temperature

Perfect balance for growth
Control the light and temperature ratio to maintain a balanced crop.
Keep your parameters in the light green zone for balanced growth, maximizing your yield and quality.
Example actions:
Daily ventilation based on incoming radiation

Night heating based on day light integral (total light per day)

Minimising RTR fluctuations

Growers use these products daily to achieve this step:

5 Balance Plant-Water

Benefits:
- Avoid decreased photosynthesis
- Improve stomata opening
Goal:
Keep plant VPD in the optimum range (0.3-1.5 kPa)

Keep Your Leaves in the Sweet Spot
Track Canopy VPD (vapor pressure difference) to ensure optimal stomata opening.
Stay in the green zone to avoid stress and keep your crops thriving—too high, and your
plants risk closing up; too low, and condensation could cause trouble.
Example actions:
Adjust ventilation
